Young Reporter Award Winner Lands Open University Role

Arran Sihota, a student at Parmiter's School, has secured a media industry experience opportunity after winning the Sports category in his age group at the Young Reporter Awards. He provided voiceovers for a series of Instagram reels produced by the Open University.

Professional Recording Experience

The recording session took place in a professional sound studio, where Sihota worked with content producers. This experience gave him insight into the internal workings of the media industry. The Young Reporter Awards, now in their 18th year, celebrate students participating in a journalism scheme. This year's ceremony recognised 33 students across various categories, selected from hundreds of submissions. Winners also attended a university newsroom day to simulate producing an online newspaper under deadline pressure.

I had to be the voice over for a series of videos that the Open University were making and I got to work with the content producers and record in a real sound studio, getting a real gauge for how this part of the industry works internally, while gaining valuable experience in the world of media.”

Emma Burch, who organised Sihota's recording session on behalf of Artful Being, described his performance as "brilliant", noting that he handled a significant workload effectively. She highlighted the opportunity as a testament to the potential benefits of participating in the Young Reporter Scheme.
