Student's mural transforms Harrow concrete shed

A former concrete shed at the Northwick Parkside development in Harrow has been brightened by a new mural. The artwork, created by University of Westminster illustration student Danling Su, now covers the structure located opposite Northwick Park Hospital.

Community Art Competition

The mural was the winning entry in a public art competition initiated in January by Sovereign Network Group (SNG). SNG invited art students from the University of Westminster's Harrow campus to submit concepts for transforming the site into a community art piece. Ms Su's design was chosen from a shortlist of three finalists via a public vote conducted on SNG's social media channels.

Mural artist Miguel Fons was responsible for painting Ms Su's design onto the shed in May. He spent approximately two weeks completing the project. The artwork visually represents the connections between healthcare, education, and home life within the Northwick Parkside community. Elements such as organic forms and flowers symbolise growth, an apple signifies the link between healthcare and education, and a 'guardian' figure represents care and protection.

Both Ms Su and Mr Fons expressed their satisfaction with the project. Ms Su noted the rewarding nature of seeing her design realised and hoped it would bring comfort and positivity. Mr Fons found the experience fantastic, appreciating Ms Su's creative vision and the opportunity to help create a landmark artwork that he hopes will be inspiring and uplifting for passers-by.
