Council attributes initial high figures to low testing volumes, not a borough-wide surge.
Initially, law enforcement officials indicated that two suspects were believed to have been engaged in a gunfight at the festival, which is held near the Space Needle. However, court documents related to the arrest of the 15-year-old on Monday revealed that investigators now consider a third attacker to have been involved. Police are actively searching for at least one additional suspect. One of the individuals believed to be involved was killed at the scene. Two firearms were recovered by police from the location.
Assistant Police Chief Nicole Powell stated on Monday afternoon that initial findings suggest the shooting might be connected to gang activity. She also indicated that the arrested 15-year-old and a 19-year-old victim who died at the scene are thought to have had associations with each other, though the nature of their connection was not detailed. The three deceased individuals have been identified by the King County medical examiner as Junior Cee Niko Semo, 19, Carlos Israel Sanchez Villalba, 44, and Ashley Whitehead, 56. Police believe Semo was involved in the exchange of gunfire. Two deaths were confirmed at the festival site, with the third victim passing away in hospital.
