Sainsbury's Nectar Points Now Available on Uber Eats

Sainsbury's has expanded its Nectar loyalty scheme to allow customers to earn points on grocery orders placed via the Uber Eats platform. This new arrangement enables shoppers to collect Nectar points on eligible Sainsbury's products purchased through the Uber Eats app or website.

To accumulate points, customers are required to enter their complete Nectar card number during the checkout process on Uber Eats. For every £1 spent on qualifying items, one Nectar point will be awarded. A minimum spend of £1 is necessary to be eligible for points. Sainsbury's has stated that points cannot be applied retrospectively to orders.

Katie Hunter, Uber Eats general manager for grocery and retail in the UK, commented on the expansion. "We know how much Uber Eats customers love Nectar, so bringing points directly to their Sainsbury’s orders was a no-brainer," Ms Hunter said, as reported by the Times Series. "Now, they can collect Nectar points on all their Sainsbury’s essentials as well as spending them across the entire Uber app."

The scheme is operational at over 1,300 Sainsbury's locations across the United Kingdom that are integrated with Uber Eats. It encompasses deliveries of fresh food, household goods, and other qualifying products. Nectar points earned through these grocery orders are expected to be credited to customer accounts within a 28-day period.

Excluded Items and Existing Partnership

Certain items are excluded from earning Nectar points under this scheme. These include gift vouchers, baby milk, lottery tickets, tobacco, vapes, nicotine products, proprietary medicines, spirits, and liqueurs. Additional restrictions may apply to alcohol orders in Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland, according to reports.

This development builds upon the existing collaboration between Nectar and Uber. Previously, Nectar members could already use their accumulated points for vouchers applicable to Uber journeys and Uber Eats orders. Mark Given, Sainsbury’s chief technology, marketing and data officer, noted, "Nectar members can already turn their points into Uber rides or Uber Eats treats, and now they can collect points when ordering Sainsbury’s groceries through Uber Eats too," as reported by the Ham & High newspaper. "It’s another way we’re helping customers get more from Nectar, whether they’re stocking up on essentials, planning dinner or making everyday life that little bit easier."
