Ricky Wilson to star in immersive Grease

Ricky Wilson, known for his role as frontman of the band Kaiser Chiefs, is set to appear as Teen Angel in an immersive staging of the musical Grease. The production, titled Grease The Immersive Musical, is currently underway and will continue until September 13. The show is taking place at Evolution London in Battersea Park.

A Nod to the Past

Wilson, who has resided in north London for approximately twenty years, reflected on his past involvement with the musical. He recalled a minor role in a school production of Grease during his time at Leeds Grammar School in 1993. He humorously noted that his current part offers a sense of vindication, suggesting he is now fulfilling a more significant role than he did as a teenager. Wilson mentioned that he was the only member of that school production's cast to pursue a career in professional music.

The immersive nature of the current production allows the audience to engage with the performance. Attendees can sit on bleachers resembling Rydell High, experience a funfair, and consume themed food and drinks while watching a blend of live action and the original film. Wilson described his role as having a small amount of stage time but acknowledged that it involves a degree of acting, a skill he playfully downplayed, stating he is "a terrible actor" and will essentially be playing himself.
