Man admits stealing ambulance with patient

Marshall Leese, 32, has pleaded guilty to multiple offences including false imprisonment and aggravated vehicle taking. The charges relate to an incident on 25 March where Leese stole an ambulance from outside Royal Stoke University Hospital in Stoke-on-Trent. A patient and a paramedic were inside the vehicle at the time of the theft.

Details of the Incident

The court heard that Leese took the ambulance, which was in run lock mode allowing the keys to be removed while the engine remained on, at approximately 20:15 GMT. He drove away while the paramedic was attending to the patient in the rear of the vehicle. Staffordshire Police initiated a pursuit, tracking the ambulance until it was abandoned at an Esso petrol station in Chesterton, Newcastle-under-Lyme. Leese then fled into nearby woodland but was apprehended by police officers.

Arsenal Pursue Bruno Guimaraes Amid Newcastle Rejections

Newcastle United has rejected multiple offers from Arsenal for midfielder Bruno Guimaraes, who is reportedly open to a move.

Leese, from Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent, also admitted to failing to provide a specimen for analysis and driving without insurance. He was remanded into custody at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court. A date for sentencing has not yet been set.

Aftermath and Response

Following the recovery of the stolen vehicle, a second ambulance was dispatched to the petrol station to attend to the patient and transport them back to hospital. A spokesperson for West Midlands Ambulance Service confirmed that a welfare check was also conducted on the paramedic involved to ensure their wellbeing. Detective Constable Lili Rose Gregory of Staffordshire Police stated that the incident could have had a different outcome and expressed relief that no one was harmed.

This incident could have ended very differently and I'm pleased that no-one was hurt as a result of Leese's actions.

Judge Sally Hancox described the circumstances of the event as unusual. The stolen ambulance was equipped with a system that would cause it to cut out after a period of time when left in run lock mode.
