Kavinsky achieved significant global recognition for his 2010 track 'Nightcall'. The song was featured in the soundtrack of the 2011 neo-noir film Drive, starring Ryan Gosling. More recently, 'Nightcall' was performed at the closing ceremony of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. This performance led to the song becoming the most Shazamed track in a single day on the music identification app's history, as reported by the BBC.

The track 'Nightcall' was produced with Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo of Daft Punk, mixed by Sebastian, and featured vocals from Brazilian singer Lovefoxxx. During the Paris Olympics ceremony, Belgian singer Angèle performed the lead vocals alongside Kavinsky and the band Phoenix.

French President Emmanuel Macron paid tribute to the musician, stating on Facebook that Kavinsky was "a source of French pride forever". The Paris prosecutor's office confirmed Kavinsky was found at his residence. No suspicious items were found at the scene by first responders. Belorgey, who was born near Paris, began his music career in the early 2000s, performing as an opening act for French electronic pioneers Daft Punk. His DJ alter ego, Kavinsky, was associated with the 'French Touch' music movement, alongside artists such as Justice and Sebastian.
