Barnet Schoolboys Organise Charity Football Match

Two school friends have arranged a charity football match to support their peer, Kit Chester-Canavan, 16, who is currently receiving treatment for acute lymphoblastic leukaemia. The match is set to take place on May 8 at Meadow Park Stadium, the home ground of Boreham Wood Football Club.

The proceeds from the event will be directed towards two causes: the Teenage Cancer Trust and a special fund established for Kit's 'Hope Trip'. This initiative, created by Kit's mother, Amanda, aims to facilitate a dream journey for him to visit Thailand, Vietnam, Bali, and New Zealand. As reported by the Borehamwood & Elstree Times, the fundraiser has already amassed close to £13,000.

Ronnie Cooper and Frank Mordecai, fellow pupils at Bushey Meads School, organised the match. They stated to the Borehamwood & Elstree Times, "Kit is one of our best mates and when he was diagnosed, we knew we had to do something meaningful. This isn’t just about football — it’s about showing up for him, supporting him through this fight, and bringing everyone together behind him. The response so far has been incredible and we’re so grateful to everyone getting involved."

Amanda, Kit's mother, highlighted to the Borehamwood & Elstree Times the challenges in identifying leukaemia symptoms in young individuals, noting that they can often be mistaken for common ailments like the flu or a virus. She emphasised the importance of raising awareness so that other parents are vigilant about potential signs and when to seek further medical evaluation. Amanda also commented on the event, telling the Borehamwood & Elstree Times, "This event is about the power of friendship and a community coming together to support Kit through his journey whilst raising valuable funds for Teenage Cancer Trust. The charity has been an amazing help to us throughout this process."
