London Overground Weaver Line closures in September

London Overground services on the Weaver Line will be suspended across Enfield and Haringey boroughs on two consecutive weekends next month. Network Rail is undertaking essential engineering works to renew overhead lines and structures between Bethnal Green and Enfield Town and Cheshunt.

Planned track work will suspend services between Edgware Road and Wimbledon on Saturday and Sunday.

The closures are scheduled for Saturday 19th and Sunday 20th September, and again on Saturday 26th and Sunday 27th September. Network Rail stated the works are part of an ongoing programme to maintain the railway and will help to keep the route reliable and fit for the future. Activities include replacing ageing wires and structures, renewing sections of track north of Turkey Street, and clearing vegetation.

Joe Kennedy, infrastructure director for Network Rail Anglia, said the works were being combined over two weekends to allow a significant amount of work to be carried out safely and efficiently. He added that this approach aims to avoid the need for further closures. Rory O’Neill, TfL’s general manager for London Overground, acknowledged that the closures would cause disruption and advised customers to plan ahead, check their journeys, and allow extra travel time.

Impact on Events

Passengers travelling to events during the closure periods will need to make alternative transport arrangements. This includes those heading to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium for the Premier League match on Saturday 19th September, and attendees of a concert on Saturday 26th September.

Rail replacement bus services will be in operation throughout the closure weekends to assist passengers. The works are intended to reduce the risk of future faults and disruption, ensuring a resilient railway.
