London’s population falls for first time since 2021, ONS data shows

London’s population dropped 0.3% in 2025 to 9,122,909, the first decline since 2021, with 23 of 33 boroughs losing residents. Net international migration to the UK fell sharply, and it remains unclear how Barnet’s numbers changed. The ONS also recorded the lowest birth numbers since 1978 and the lowest death toll since 2019.
