Nicaragua proposes presidential term extension

Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega has proposed extending the presidential term by a year and barring opposition members deemed 'traitors' from running for office. The government-controlled National Assembly is expected to approve the changes in September 2026. This follows previous reforms that removed term limits and allowed Ortega's wife to be named co-president.
