Members have been informed they can transfer to Virgin Active gyms in Angel, Mill Hill, Crouch End, or Notting Hill. However, some members, particularly those over 65 who meet regularly, have stated these locations involve lengthy commutes via public transport, making daily attendance unviable. For instance, a member living in Swiss Cottage reported that travelling to Mill Hill would take too long for regular visits.

The most convenient Virgin Active location for many members, situated near Oxford Street, is reportedly double the price of their current membership. This has led to concerns about affordability, especially for off-peak members who value the social aspect of their local gym community.

Furthermore, a new upmarket gym, Third Place, is scheduled to open at the O2 Centre next year. Members have described this forthcoming facility as being even more expensive than their current Virgin Active membership.

Deborah Sandler, 68, is among the members who have written to Virgin Active requesting that the Mayfair gym be offered at the same rate as their current membership. Ms Sandler claims to have received only automated responses to these appeals. She expressed disappointment, stating that the replies indicated her specific concerns had not been read or addressed. Members report that local alternatives offering both a swimming pool and reformer Pilates classes are scarce.

The closure affects a community of members who rely on regular exercise for their health, with Ms Sandler noting the importance of exercise for managing her blood pressure and cholesterol. Virgin Active has been contacted for comment.
