UCS Finchley pupils achieve record GCSE results

Year 11 pupils at University College School (UCS) in Finchley have achieved a record-breaking set of GCSE results, marking the school's strongest performance to date. The school reported that 58 per cent of all grades awarded were a grade 9, the highest possible mark.

Further analysis of the results shows that 84 per cent of UCS GCSE grades were awarded at 9 or 8. In total, 94 per cent of grades were at 9 to 7. Nineteen pupils achieved straight 9s, and 57 students attained only grades of 9 and 8.

Academic performance highlights

Specific subject results highlight the school's academic achievements. In English literature, 92 per cent of grades were 9 or 8. Mathematics saw 90 per cent of grades at 9 or 8, while 80 per cent of history grades were a 9. Modern languages also showed strong performance, with 80 per cent of grades in French, German, Italian, Mandarin, and Spanish at 9 or 8.

Mark Beard, headmaster at UCS, expressed pride in the pupils' accomplishments. He stated, "This is a wonderful moment for our GCSE pupils, and I am enormously proud of what they have achieved. Behind these outstanding results are individual stories of hard work, determination and ambition, as well as the exceptional commitment of the teachers who have supported and inspired them throughout their time at UCS."

Mr Beard added that the pupils are now prepared to move forward to the Sixth Form with confidence. Mark English, vice master, commented on the significance of these results for university applications, noting their value as the only externally assessed examination results pupils will have achieved at this stage.
