Hendon School Students Shine in Maths Challenge

North London Grammar School (NLGS) in Hendon is celebrating a significant achievement following the UK Mathematics Trust (UKMT) Intermediate Maths Challenge. The school has recorded its most successful year to date in the national competition, with 29 students receiving medals. These awards included eight gold, 13 silver, and eight bronze.

Hendon school reports 95% of all exams achieved a Grade 4 or above.

Among the top performers were Year 10 student Mustafa and Year 8 student Maryam, both of whom secured gold medals. Mustafa achieved a score of 113 points, a result that places him among the top 500 students internationally. His exceptional score also earned him an invitation to the Hamilton Maths Olympiad, an event reserved for the highest-achieving Year 10 students across England, Wales, and overseas. Maryam's gold medal was noted as a particularly outstanding achievement for a student in Year 8, demonstrating mathematical ability well beyond her age.

Record Performance and School Culture

Headteacher Fatih Adak described the results as the school's strongest performance in the UKMT Intermediate Maths Challenge. He attributed the success to the students' talent and the school's environment, stating, "These exceptional results reflect not only the talent of our students, but also the culture of excellence, resilience and ambition that defines North London Grammar School," as reported by the Barnet & Potters Bar Times. Mr Adak added, "This year marks the strongest performance NLGS has ever achieved in the UKMT Intermediate Maths Challenge, highlighting the exceptional standard and depth of mathematical ability across the school."
