Food banks in Barnet: where they are, and one has just moved

There are around ten food bank organisations operating in Barnet, and the arrangements differ between them. Some need a referral and some will see anyone. One has just changed address, which is the most useful thing in this guide.

Colindale Foodbank closed at its former address in the week beginning 3 August 2026 and reopens to clients on 11 August at Trinity Hub, 7A The Concourse, Grahame Park NW9 5XB.

This matters more than a routine listing update because two of the places people would check are wrong. Barnet Council’s own directory still shows the old NW9 5QY address, and so does the food bank’s own locations page. Anyone relying on either will travel to a closed building.

Chipping Barnet Foodbank is referral-only and opens on Tuesdays from 12pm to 2pm and Saturdays from 10am to 12pm, at EN5 1RF.

Getting a referral

Where a food bank is part of the Trussell network it will ask for a voucher, which comes from a referral agency rather than the food bank itself — Citizens Advice, a school, a GP, a health visitor, a social worker or a support charity. If you are not sure who can refer you, Citizens Advice is the usual starting point.

Independent food banks and community pantries in the borough often do not ask for one. That is why it is worth checking a specific location’s own arrangements before setting out rather than assuming a referral is or is not needed.

One organisation we are not listing times for is Finchley Food Bank. Three separate sources give three different sets of opening hours and we could not establish which is right, so publishing any of them would be a guess. Contact them directly.
